I have had a love for animals for as long as I can remember. I grew up in North Delta, a suburb of Vancouver, and have many fond memories of wildlife encounters. I especially enjoyed getting up in the middle of the night to watch families of racoons or opossums in my backyard. I also remember trying to look after a few injured birds. Unfortunately, they usually passed away, since I didn’t know how to care for them properly.
After graduating from high school, it took me a few years to decide to start working towards my childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. I finally enrolled in college Sept. 2000 and was lucky enough to find work in a veterinary hospital later that year. While Capilano Vet Hospital is a small animal practice, a fair amount of wildlife also came through the doors, including an unlucky little skunk who got his head stuck in a pickle jar!
In 2005 I stared volunteering as a care centre worker with the Wildlife Rescue Association of British Columbia. They have a facility set up in Burnaby to rehabilitate birds and small animals. I found it very fulfilling to volunteer there.
In 2006, I moved to Saskatoon, continuing to work towards getting into the Western College of Verterinary Medicine. I began looking around for similar wildlife rehabilitation groups and was introduced to WRSOS President, Jan Shadick. I soon became a member of WRSOS and was elected onto the board of directors in the spring of 2006 and I enjoy helping to KEEP SASKATCHEWAN WILDLIFE WILD!
